High acoustic performance glass partitions for the Serbian Chamber of Commerce
Budget: €38,000
Client: Nobili Furniture
Product: GSW Office and Urban Slim doors
Acoustic insulation: 39 dB
Project
For a representative space within the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, located in the city centre, glass systems were installed for an interior designed for high-level meetings, receptions and official business events.
The interior covers two floors and several functional zones: reception area, entrance zone, lounge space, a large conference room and a multifunctional area with a kitchen and a large meeting table. The total area of the space is over 500 m².
The main interior contractor was Nobili, while CASA was engaged as a specialist subcontractor for glass partitions and glass doors with enhanced acoustic insulation.
The goal was not simply to divide the space. The aim was to create an interior that remains transparent and open, while providing privacy, quietness and acoustic control between different zones in everyday use.
Challenge: a transparent space that needs to function as a closed one
In representative business interiors, glass is often selected for its aesthetic value, natural light and sense of openness. However, when a space is used for meetings, presentations and confidential conversations, transparency alone is not enough.
This project required:
- visual connection between different zones
- a high level of acoustic insulation
- clean aluminium profile lines
- doors that would not compromise the acoustic performance of the system
- precise installation within an interior with a high level of finish
A specific requirement was to achieve the necessary acoustic performance with single-glazed glass partitions, without introducing a double-glazed system. This solution was selected because the acoustic performance of the single-glazed partitions fully met the needs of the space, while allowing for a more elegant and rational result.
Solution: single-glazed glass partitions with acoustic glass
For the glass partitions, the GSW Office system by Glass System was used, combined with acoustic laminated glass VSG 66.2 Si*, specifically Saint-Gobain Glass Stadip Silence.
This configuration provides acoustic insulation of up to 39 dB under laboratory conditions.
It is important to note that, in projects of this type, acoustic performance is not the result of a single component. It depends on the profile system, glass type, precision of the joints, installation method and control of all transition points. For that reason, the glass partitions and doors were treated as one complete system rather than as separate products.
Glass partition specification:
- System: GSW Office – Glass System
- System type: single-glazed glass partitions
- Glass: VSG 66.2 Si*
- Glass manufacturer: Saint-Gobain Glass Stadip Silence
- Acoustic insulation: up to 39 dB under laboratory conditions
These glass partitions with acoustic insulation allowed the space to be functionally divided without visually closing the interior.
Glass doors as the most sensitive point of acoustic performance
In glass partition systems with acoustic requirements, doors are often the most critical part of the system. If the door does not sit correctly, if the threshold is not properly resolved or if closing is not controlled, the overall acoustic performance of the space can be compromised.
For this reason, Urban Slim doors by Glass System were used in this project, with aluminium frames and acoustic glass Iso Sound glass VSG 55.2 Si*.
The doors were designed with concealed hinges, a drop-down seal and a concealed door closer. This combination allows the doors to remain visually clean, while also contributing to the overall acoustic insulation of the space when closed.
Door specification:
- System: Urban Slim Doors – Glass System
- Glass: Iso Sound glass VSG 55.2 Si*
- Glass manufacturer: Saint-Gobain Glass Stadip Silence
- Frame: aluminium
- Finish: RAL 1035 matte
- Hinges: concealed hinges
- Drop-down seal: for additional sealing and improved acoustic insulation, manufactured by Planet
- Door closer: OZONE CDC-CA-6800-SL, concealed door closer
- Handle: greenteQ lever handle DG 61.ER.ORS.LT, aluminium handle by German manufacturer VBH
- System acoustic insulation: up to 39 dB under laboratory conditions
The project included:
- 6 double-leaf doors
- 5 single-leaf doors
Some of the doors were integrated into the glass partition system, while others were installed as independent elements within aluminium door frames.
Why is the drop-down seal important?
In doors with acoustic insulation, the bottom area of the door has a significant impact on the final result.

For this reason, a drop-down seal was used in this project. It is activated when the door closes and additionally seals the bottom area of the door, contributing to better sound control.
In combination with the concealed door closer, the door returns to the closed position without the user having to pay special attention to it. This is particularly important in frequently used spaces, especially where multiple people move between different zones throughout the day.
Execution and installation of glass partitions
With glass systems of this type, the final result does not depend only on the selected product. Installation is equally important.
The installation of glass partitions and doors required precise integration into the interior, careful positioning of profiles and control of every detail that affects the functionality of the system.
Special attention was given to:
- accurate positioning of aluminium profiles
- precise door alignment
- installation of the drop-down seal
- integration of doors into glass partitions
- alignment of the finish with the rest of the interior
In representative interiors, there are no “invisible” mistakes. Every joint, frame, line and gap remains part of the overall impression. For that reason, the execution of the glass partitions had to follow the same level of precision defined by the interior design project.
Result: an open space with controlled acoustics
The result is a space that maintains a sense of openness while providing better control between different functional zones.
The reception area, lounge space, conference room and multifunctional area with a large meeting table were clearly defined, but without creating a feeling of enclosure. The glass partitions allow light to pass through and preserve visual connection, while acoustic glass and doors with additional sealing contribute to privacy and comfort during meetings.
This type of result is especially important in spaces where different functions take place throughout the day: receptions, conversations, presentations, internal meetings and official events.
The main interior contractor, Nobili, expressed satisfaction with the executed project and the final functionality of the system.
When are glass partitions with acoustic insulation the right choice?
Glass partitions with acoustic insulation are a good choice when a space needs to remain bright and visually open, while also providing better acoustic control.
They are most commonly used for:
- conference rooms
- meeting rooms
- office spaces
- reception and lounge areas
- executive and representative business interiors
- spaces used for confidential conversations or presentations
Depending on the project requirements, it is possible to use single-glazed or double-glazed glass partitions, different types of acoustic glass and doors with additional sealing.
In this case, single-glazed glass partitions were the optimal solution because they met the acoustic requirements of the space, while providing a more elegant appearance and lower construction complexity compared to double-glazed systems.
Conclusion
This project demonstrates that glass partitions do not have to be only a visual element of an interior. When properly specified and installed, they can play an important functional role in space organisation, sound control and the everyday use of a business interior.
The combination of GSW Office glass partitions, Urban Slim doors, acoustic glass, drop-down seals, concealed door closers and high-quality hardware allowed the space to remain transparent while achieving the required level of privacy and acoustic comfort.
For representative business interiors, quality is not only reflected in the appearance of the system. Quality is visible in the way the space performs when it is used.
Planning a similar solution?
If you are planning an office, conference or representative business space where transparency, privacy and acoustic insulation are important, glass partitions with acoustic performance can be an optimal solution.
