Frameless Glass Railings

Combining Glass and Metal for a Beautiful View

Glass railings showcase the sophistication and contemporary look of any part of a building, whether it’s a staircase, terrace, balcony, gallery, pool, or garden.

Glass railings are a structural system composed of glass panels that provide a safety barrier. There’s a wide range of options, styles, and finishes to suit everyone’s taste. Safety and adherence to building regulations are essential considerations when choosing glass railings.

We deliver glass railings in various profile and support systems suitable for exterior and interior applications. The optimal type of glass railing depends on multiple factors: the railing’s location, glass specifications, project type, and building structure. These basic details are required before budget estimation. Our services include measurement, design, and installation.

Frameless Glass Railings

Frameless glass railings are characterized by unobstructed views. The glass railings’ aluminium system is suitable for indoor and outdoor spaces. These are linear railings, either surface-mounted or recessed into the floor, or side-mounted railings with point supports – medallions. The fence consists of glass panels with a small gap between segments in both cases. The standard gap is the minimum glass thickness.

Surface-mounted railings are mounted on a finished floor, while for recessed railings, the railing’s supports are located below the level of the finished floor. Recessed glass railings provide an even more expansive view and the effect of floating glass.

According to the RAL colour chart, the final profile finish can be in any colour. Custom glass finishes and handrail or cap options are available.

Medallions, point supports made of stainless steel, are commonly used for side-mounted glass railings. Glass requires drilling, so glass treatment must include lamination, hole drilling for supports, and glass tempering.

Safety-tempered or laminated-tempered glass with a thickness ranging from 10 to 20 mm is used for making glass railings. The glass thickness depends on the location of the glass railing (indoor, outdoor, exposed to wind impact, etc.) and the purpose (commercial or residential).

Tempered glass is nearly five times stronger and more resistant than regular glass, while laminated glass consists of two pieces bonded by a layer of film in the middle. This way, even if the glass breaks, it remains on the film or shatters into small parts that can’t cause serious harm.

For exterior glass railings, laminated-tempered glass is recommended as the safest option. The colour of the glass depends on the client’s preference. Options include transparent glass, coloured glass, frosted glass, tinted glass, or glass films.

The final profile and support finishes can be in any colour according to the RAL colour chart, with silver being the standard choice. Handrails can be decorative and serve as a safety detail on the glass railing. A handrail is mandatory if the barrier is higher than 1100 mm.
